Have you ever heard of this saying?

‘Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, and you feed him for a lifetime’.

Rising education costs and inflation are making it harder for some to pursue a good education, and it would be a waste to see someone fall short of their potential to contribute to society, just because they are unable to afford it.

Therefore, I thought about how I can help others and came up with this event.

Growing up, life was not all roses and butterflies. My father's business took a toll when I was in pre-school during the financial crisis in 2003, causing me to almost drop out of pre-school as we struggled to afford the school fees even after selling off our HDB and car.

Fortunately, my parents managed to rebuild their business over years of hard work which allowed me to enjoy a comfortable life thus far.

However, during my university journey, it pained me to see my peers struggling financially to afford their education which only worsen during my final semester of university when Covid-19 hit. Some were struggling to survive with their savings, not just for their livelihood but to even have a chance to graduate. Many had to deal with their student debt after graduation and others were in unfavorable situation such as facing the constant threat of losing their jobs and the fear of being unable to pay off their student loans.

So, the objective of my event is to help the future generation who may be struggling, by giving them the necessary skills and education and to do my part in making the world a better place.

As such, I am looking forward to Pay-It-Forward to help those who may be having troubles with affording their education, like I was, as well as to commemorate my quarter life milestone.

I am pledging to donate 100% of my sales revenue in April to The Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund to spearhead the event.
